Spokesperson Reminds Journalists Not to Act Beyond Professional Role
AKP Phnom Penh, October 10, 2025 --
The spokesperson of the Minister of Information, H.E. Tep Asnarith, has reminded all journalists to strictly adhere to the code of professional ethics during their news reporting coverage.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a capacity-building training course on information and public opinion held in Prey Veng province recently, H.E. Tep Asnarith noted that a few journalists had recently overstepped their professional boundaries, engaging in activities that interfered with the work of competent authorities or potentially affected national security and public order.
H.E. Tep Asnarith stressed that journalists must clearly understand their rights and duties under the law to avoid publishing false or biased reports and to ensure that all parties involved in a story are fairly represented.
“Journalists must perform their work professionally, lawfully, and ethically. They should not take over the roles of authorities but focus on delivering accurate and verified information to the public, free from personal bias,” he said.
The spokesperson further emphasised that journalists should serve as role models in society by upholding truth, maintaining transparency of sources, and respecting professional and ethical standards.
Strengthening digital literacy and investigative capacity, he added, is vital to producing high-quality, evidence-based content for the benefit of the public and the nation.
The spokesperson also underlined that all media actors play an important role in supporting national security, political stability, and social harmony.
As of August 2025, the Ministry of Information has issued 8,723 press identification cards to both national and international journalists, and 1,620 media outlets have been officially registered with the ministry.
