EU Urges Effective Implementation of Ceasefire Between Cambodia and Thailand
AKP Phnom Penh, September 06, 2025––
The European Union is calling on Cambodia and Thailand to make "sustained efforts" to effectively implement their recently signed ceasefire agreement, urging both nations to uphold international law and prevent further escalation of tensions.
"I call for sustained efforts by Cambodia and Thailand to implement the ceasefire agreement effectively," said Anitta Hipper, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in a post on the social media platform X on Sept. 5, 2025. "Both parties must respect international law and refrain from any activities that escalate tensions."
Ms. Hipper further stated that the EU stands in solidarity with Malaysia, the 2025 Chair of ASEAN, in supporting initiatives to foster peace and long-term stability between the two neighboring countries.
The ceasefire, which went into effect at midnight on July 28, 2025, has been strictly observed by Cambodia, which has repeatedly urged Thailand to do the same.
Cambodia has specifically pointed to the 13-point consensus reached during the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) in Malaysia on Aug. 7, 2025, and the spirit of the recent Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) as key elements for adherence.
