The Global South Media and Think Tank Forum 2025 was officially launched this morning in Kunming, China’s Yunnan Province under the theme "Empowering global south, navigating global changes," with participation from over 500 delegates representing 110 countries, including Cambodia.

This high-level forum, aimed at strengthening the Global South’s role in global communication and policy discourse, marks the official establishment of the Global South Joint Communication Partnership Network, connecting more than 1,000 media outlets and think tanks from 95 countries. The network is expected to become a platform for knowledge exchange, collaborative reporting, and strategic dialogue.

Cambodia’s delegation, led by H.E Chhean Leang, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, senior media and policy representatives, joined other countries in voicing support for greater South-South cooperation. The event focuses on enhancing the Global South’s ability to tell its own stories and address common challenges through shared narratives.

Key documents unveiled at the forum include the Yunnan Consensus, a joint pledge to expand media collaboration, and a report highlighting China’s contribution to Global South cooperation, offering best practices from its public communication efforts.

The five-day forum will feature plenary sessions and workshops on themes such as peace-building narratives, AI in journalism, and cultural preservation.

This is the second edition of the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum, following its inaugural session in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2024. It is co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province.
