Samdech Sudary Reiterates Cambodia’s Move to Bring Border Dispute with Thailand to the ICJ
AKP Phnom Penh, July 05, 2025 --
Speaking to the frontline armed forces, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, reiterated the National Assembly’s full support for the Royal Government’s efforts to resolve the Cambodia–Thailand border issues through the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and international law.
During the visit made on July 4, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed profound gratitude to the armed forces for their courageous sacrifices and dedication to protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Samdech reaffirmed Cambodia’s consistent commitment to peace, friendship, cooperation, and development with all neighbouring countries.
“We will not allow even a millimetre of our land to be lost. We do not seek others’ territory, but we will defend every millimetre of our own,” she said.
Samdech expressed regret that whenever Thailand faces internal political turmoil, competing politicians often resort to provoking disputes with Cambodia. By inflaming border issues, they escalate tensions, trigger border closures, and disrupt trade, the economy, and the livelihoods of ordinary people.
Cambodia is the victim of Thailand’s internal politics and power struggle, recalling Samdech Techo’s words: “A good neighbour is like gold; a bad neighbour is like a landmine”.
Addressing the ongoing border issues, Samdech explained Cambodia’s decision to bring disputes over the Mom Bei area, Ta Moan Tauch, Ta Moan Thom, and Ta Krabei temples to the ICJ to seek a comprehensive, long-lasting peaceful resolution and prevent future armed conflicts or skirmishes.
She affirmed Cambodia’s continued cooperation with Thailand through the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) and underscored the importance of maintaining constructive bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Samdech Khuon Sudary reiterated the National Assembly’s full support for the Royal Government’s efforts to resolve the Cambodia–Thailand border issues through ICJ and international law, recalling the recent first-ever Congress of the National Assembly and Senate, which unanimously endorsed the Royal Government’s approaches towards the settlement of border disputes with Thailand.
She stressed that Cambodia seeks only peace and justice, citing that a clearly defined border demarcation with neighbours is necessary to spare future generations from unresolved disputes and to build borders of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.
