Cambodia, Türkiye Pledge to Deepen Bilateral Relations and Expand Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, October 17, 2026 --
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Turkish President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have pledged to further strengthen their longstanding friendship and deepen bilateral cooperation across a wider range of sectors.
The commitment was made during bilateral talks in Istanbul, Türkiye, on the afternoon of Oct. 16 (local time), during Prime Minister Hun Manet’s working visit to the country.
During the meeting, President Erdoğan warmly welcomed the Cambodian Prime Minister and his delegation, expressing his pleasure at the discussions, which he said reflected the longstanding relations between the two countries and opened a new chapter in their bilateral ties.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the Turkish President for the warm welcome and praised Türkiye’s remarkable development and its important role in promoting regional and international peace and stability. He expressed confidence that his visit would provide fresh momentum to the longstanding friendship and help make bilateral cooperation deeper, more practical and broader in scope, building on the historic visit by former Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen eight years ago.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation achieved to date and exchanged views on further strengthening ties in key areas, including politics, security and defence; trade and investment; and partnerships between the private sectors of the two countries.
They also discussed development cooperation through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), as well as people-to-people connectivity through tourism, education, cultural exchanges and the establishment of direct flights between Istanbul and Phnom Penh.
The two leaders further exchanged views on international issues, underscoring the importance of promoting peace, stability and sustainable development, while respecting international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
Following the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Hun Manet and President Erdoğan co-presided over a signing ceremony for the Military Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Royal Government of Cambodia.
