PM Hun Manet Highlights Government Efforts to Promote Responsible Alcohol Marketing for Public Well-Being
AKP Phnom Penh, October 7, 2026 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted the Royal Government’s efforts to promote responsible alcohol marketing and advertising as part of its commitment to protecting people’s health and well-being.
Speaking this morning while presiding over the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the University of Health Sciences, the inauguration of two new academic buildings and the presentation of diplomas to graduating students, Samdech Thipadei said the government’s measures to regulate alcohol advertising and promotional practices were carefully designed to protect consumers and contribute to public health.
Samdech Thipadei said around 6,000 billboards advertising alcoholic beverages have been replaced, only about 17 percent remain.
The Prime Minister also announced that, from now on, promotional rewards offered through pull-tabs or ring tabs of alcoholic beverages and energy drinks will no longer be permitted.
He stressed that the measures to restrict alcohol advertising on billboards and end such promotional rewards were not introduced by chance, but reflected the Royal Government’s deliberate efforts to protect the health and well-being of the people.
Samdech Thipadei also called on teachers and parents to prevent young children from consuming energy drinks.
The Prime Minister underlined that health is not merely an individual, family or social concern, but also serves as a foundation for human resource quality, labour productivity and economic growth.
“Therefore, investing in health is equivalent to investing in the future of the nation,” he underlined.
The Royal Government has so far introduced mechanisms, procedures and legal standards and established a working group to oversee responsible marketing and advertising of alcoholic products, with the aim of protecting consumers while promoting responsible business practices in the sector.
