Cambodian Authorities Deport 44 Thais Caught Living Illegally in Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, August 21, 2026 -- Cambodian authorities have deported 44 Thai nationals back to their home country for illegally staying in the Kingdom after serving their sentences, officials said Friday.
According to immigration officials at the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, the group – consisting of 28 men and 16 women – was handed over to Thai authorities at around 10:00 a.m.
The deportation procedure was carried out under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Y Chamroeun, chief of the Poipet International Border Checkpoint Police Post, in coordination with officials from the Siem Reap Deportation Centre and the Department of Investigation and Procedure under the General Department of Immigration.
The handover took place at the Poipet checkpoint, directly across from the Ban Klong Luek border crossing in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, Thailand.
