Cambodia, Kenya Reaffirm Importance of Multilateralism and International Law
AKP Phnom Penh, July 09, 2026 --
Cambodia and Kenya have reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism and international law in resolving disputes, particularly for smaller countries.
The remarks were made during a meeting in New York on July 7 between H.E. Keo Chhea, Cambodia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and H.E. Erastus Ekitela Lokaale, Kenya's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations. The meeting was also attended by Kenya Supreme Court Judge Ms. Njoki Ndungu, candidate for judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the 2027-2036 term.
During the meeting, Ambassador Keo Chhea noted that Cambodia, as a small country that had endured years of civil war, remains firmly committed to the rule of law and the peaceful settlement of disputes through international mechanisms, including the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Ambassador Lokaale agreed, saying that countries that have experienced these difficult situations are best able to understand its profound impact on their nation.
Both sides underscored the vital role of multilateralism and international law in addressing international disputes, stressing that these principles are particularly important for safeguarding the interests of smaller nations.
