Cambodia Clinches Gold in Rope Throwing at International Mountain Rescue Competition
AKP Phnom Penh, July 01, 2026—
Cambodia secured first place in the Rope Throwing Accuracy discipline at the 6th Cloud Mountain Rescue Technology Competition Exchange Event, held from June 24-30 in Kunming, China.
Mr. Sam Piseth, an official from the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), claimed the gold medal, beating out competitors from three other regional nations.
The NOCC hailed the victory as a major milestone, stating it highlights the rising technical capabilities, precision, and preparedness of Cambodian rescue personnel on the international stage.
Mr. Pov Mengkong, Head of the Cambodian delegation, emphasised that participation in the international event was designed to deepen rescue cooperation with China, sharpen technical skill sets, and foster knowledge exchange for both mountain and water rescue operations.
"These advanced skills will be instrumental in elevating Cambodia’s domestic rescue capabilities and maximising the efficiency of future emergency operations," Mr. Pov stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the NOCC for sponsoring the seven-member Cambodian delegation, noting that the programme successfully enhanced institutional capacity while raising the Kingdom's international profile.
The six-day event featured elite rescue teams from four nations: Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and the host country, China.
