Deputy PM Hun Many Rushes Aid to 182 Gust-Hit Families in Kampong Speu
AKP Phnom Penh, June 16, 2026 --
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Hun Many led an emergency Royal Government delegation to Kampong Speu on Tuesday, delivering food, supplies, and cash assistance to 182 families devastated by a powerful weekend gust.
The Sunday afternoon twister tore through Samrong Tong district, flattening homes, displacing residents, and crippling local livelihoods in Voir Sor commune.
"The destruction goes beyond wood and tin – it strips families of their ability to work and feed themselves," H.E. Hun Many told gathered villagers, urging calm but caution as unpredictable weather looms.
The relief push came on orders from Cambodian Red Cross President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, who activated provincial chapters for rapid damage control and victim support.
While calling the aid a "first lifeline, not a final fix," the Deputy Prime Minister, also Civil Service Minister and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Kampong Speu Province, stressed that vigilance is now a daily necessity as climate volatility escalates.
