Cambodian Jiu-Jitsu Athlete Wins a Silver Medal at FISU World University Championships
AKP Phnom Penh, June 12, 2026 --
Cambodia Jiu-Jitsu male athlete Moeun Lim Sopanha won a silver medal at the 2026 FISU World University Championships in Brasilia, Brazil, on June 11.
Before moving on to the runner-up position in the -77kg category, the Cambodia standout athlete defeated a German by submission to surrender in 1 minute and 20 seconds.
In his second match, the 21-year-old athlete used the same special technique to defeat the Thai in 3 minutes and 36 seconds.
Unfortunately, in the gold medal final, Panha lost to the host Brazil on points, finishing with only a silver medal.
Moeun Lim Sopanha said that his goal was to bring home the gold medal, but he made some mistakes in the final. However, he will learn from this important experience and come back stronger for the next competition.
Meanwhile, the Cambodia Jiu-Jitsu Federation congratulated the outstanding performance and the well-deserved world championship silver medal for the motherland.
The season of the international competition still continues, with Sopanha will be representing Cambodia again next month in the major competitions in Japan and Kazakhstan.
