Cambodia, Laos Agree to Further Strengthen Security Cooperation

Cambodia and Laos have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of security during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany, Minister of Public Security of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, at the Peace Palace on Thursday morning.
During the meeting, the Lao minister expressed satisfaction with the growing relations and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, highlighting their longstanding close ties, shared traditions, and cultural similarities.
H.E. Vanthong Kongmany informed Samdech Thipadei that his visit to Cambodia aimed to participate in a review meeting on the implementation of the 2025 cooperation minutes and the signing of the 2026 cooperation minutes with Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, which concluded successfully.
The Lao minister described the visit as an important step toward enhancing cooperation in security and public order, particularly among border provinces of both countries. He stressed the importance of joint efforts in combating transnational crimes, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and cybercrime to ensure security, stability, and public order for the peoples of both nations.
He also pledged to continue strengthening security cooperation between Laos and Cambodia.
In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated H.E. Vanthong Kongmany on his appointment as Lao Minister of Public Security and expressed confidence that under his leadership, Cambodia-Laos security cooperation would become even stronger and more fruitful.
The Cambodian Premier highly valued the excellent bilateral relations and cooperation across all sectors, noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos. He also underlined the importance of enhancing infrastructure connectivity and people-to-people exchanges to help expand bilateral trade and tourism.
Samdech Thipadei praised the fruitful outcomes of the recent meeting between Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior and Laos’ Ministry of Public Security and encouraged both sides to continue deepening and broadening security cooperation, stressing that security is a crucial sector supporting broader connectivity and cooperation between the two countries.
