Phnom Penh International Half Marathon Draws 3,000 Registrations, Targets Up to 6,000 Runners
AKP Phnom Penh, April 29, 2026 --
The 14th Phnom Penh International Half Marathon, scheduled for June 14, 2026, has already attracted around 3,000 local and international registrations, with organisers expecting total participation to rise to between 5,000 and 6,000 runners.
The update was provided by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), during a press conference held on April 28 at the NOCC headquarters in Phnom Penh.
According to the NOCC Secretary General, the race will start and finish at the public park in front of Botum Vattey pagoda near the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.
The event is being organised to celebrate the 90th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, while also continuing its charitable mission of raising funds for Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital, he said.
H.E. Vath Chamroeun added that the race also aims to promote Phnom Penh’s image and tourism sector, while encouraging public participation in sports and healthy lifestyles.
He noted that registration remains open until mid-May and expressed confidence that participation numbers would continue to rise in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sem Phalla, General Manager of Cambodia Marathon Committee, said the competition will feature four race categories: the 21-kilometre half marathon, 10-kilometre run, 5-kilometre run, and a 2.5-kilometre family fun run.
He stated that organisers are placing top priority on race quality, safety, and international standards for all participants.
Mr. Sem Phalla emphasised that the event is officially recognised under international marathon regulations, with course measurement and certification meeting global standards. Following the race, organisers will submit an official report to the international marathon committee.
He also encouraged the public to register in large numbers and participate responsibly to help elevate the quality and reputation of the event on the international stage.
