Cambodian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Romania, H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo, recently paid a courtesy call on and held working talks with Romanian State Secretary H.E. Ms. Clara-Georgiana Staicu at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest to map out a comprehensive strategy for expanding bilateral relations, economic partnerships, and educational exchanges.

During the meeting, Ambassador Chanboribo conveyed warm greetings and sincere regards from Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, to Romanian Foreign Minister H.E. Oana Țoiu, expressing his firm commitment to working closely with Romanian authorities to deepen ties throughout his diplomatic mission.

Highlighting the enduring friendship between the two countries, Ambassador Chanboribo underscored trade, investment, industry, technology, energy, and education as priority sectors for future cooperation. To translate these commitments into action, the Ambassador announced an upcoming visit by a Cambodian delegation led by an Under-Secretary of State from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will include prominent business leaders. The delegation plans to engage with Romanian economic institutions and commercial representatives to explore practical trade and investment opportunities.

On educational cooperation, Ambassador Chanboribo expressed appreciation to the Romanian government for awarding scholarships to five Cambodian students this year. He proposed that Romania consider expanding its scholarship provisions in subsequent years, particularly in fields aligned with Cambodia's development priorities, such as agro-industry, technology, and vocational skills.

In response, State Secretary Clara-Georgiana Staicu warmly welcomed Ambassador Chanboribo to Bucharest and requested that he relay her highest respects back to Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn. She highlighted the longstanding tradition of bilateral friendship, emphasising Romania's desire to intensify political dialogue, develop closer ties with Southeast Asia, and support Cambodia’s evolving relations with the European Union.

State Secretary Staicu also extended congratulations to Cambodia on its upcoming hosting of the Francophonie Summit. Reaffirming Romania's commitment to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), she informed the Ambassador of the candidacy of Mr. Dacian Cioloș, former Prime Minister of Romania and European Commissioner, for the position of Secretary-General of the OIF.

The discussion concluded in a cordial and cooperative atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their readiness to transform traditional friendship into broader, deeper partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to both nations.
