UN Praises Cambodia’s ‘Sustainable Progress’ in Education Reform
AKP Phnom Penh, March 03, 2026 -- H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, has commended the country’s steady and sustainable progress in education sector reforms over the past two decades, noting their strong alignment with the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Her remarks came during a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron in Phnom Penh on Mar. 3.
H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva underscored the importance of continued cooperation to further strengthen Cambodia’s education system, including preparing students for lifelong learning, fostering supportive learning environments and expanding opportunities for youth skills development.
She also expressed interest in learning more about the ministry’s new strategic priorities to enhance UN support in advancing the SDGs, particularly in line with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s human capital development vision.
In response, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron welcomed H.E. Ms. Andreeva’s return to Cambodia for a second term as U.N. Resident Coordinator and highlighted ongoing reforms and key priorities of the ministry.
These include expanding early childhood education, promoting school feeding programmes using locally sourced agricultural products, improving public school quality through model school standards and the New Generation School initiative, reforming teacher training and digital education, advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, strengthening student health programmes, promoting youth development and 21st-century skills, reforming higher education, and developing the sports sector.
H.E. Minister emphasised that UN support to Cambodia’s education sector reflects close collaboration with the Royal Government to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 on inclusive and equitable quality education. He expressed confidence that under H.E. Ms. Andreeva’s coordination, cooperation between Cambodia and the United Nations – particularly in education, youth and sports – will continue to deepen.
