Cambodia, Brazil Eye Deeper Health Ties to Bolster Universal Coverage
AKP Phnom Penh, February 24, 2026 --
Cambodia and Brazil are moving to significantly expand bilateral cooperation in public health, focusing on technical exchange and the strengthening of Cambodia’s medical workforce.
Cambodian Health Minister H.E. Professor Chheang Ra met with Brazilian Ambassador H.E. Ms. Vivian Loss Sanmartin at the ministry’s headquarters in Phnom Penh on Monday to outline a roadmap for deeper collaboration between the two nations.
A primary focus of the talks was the advancement of universal health coverage (UHC). The two sides discussed sharing policy frameworks and technical expertise, specifically targeting research and management of communicable diseases – a key priority for Cambodia’s developing healthcare infrastructure.
The discussions also pointed toward a strategic partnership, as both parties explored collaborative opportunities in pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.
Minister Chheang Ra noted that any future initiatives would be strictly aligned with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strategic development plans. He specifically highlighted the need for Brazilian support in capacity building to enhance the skills of the domestic health workforce.
"Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services and public health outcomes in Cambodia," the ministry said in a statement.
