AKP Phnom Penh, February 05, 2026 --

H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, presided over the opening ceremony of the Ministry’s annual meeting this morning, highlighting major infrastructure developments in the country. 

The two-day event, from Feb. 5-6, attended by national and international officials, development partners, and stakeholders, served as a platform to review progress, discuss challenges, and chart a path for sustainable infrastructure development.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Peng Ponea praised the dedication of civil servants, emphasising their contributions to national development. 

“This annual meeting provides an opportunity to jointly evaluate the progress of the Ministry, address challenges, and set work directions aligned with the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1, the National Strategic Development Plan, and government policies to support socio-economic growth,” he said.

The annual meeting features panel discussions on sector development strategies, management of infrastructure projects funded by development partners, and the efficient implementation of projects using the national budget. 

H.E. Peng Ponea outlined the Ministry’s two key visions: improving transport services through modern digital technologies for efficient and transparent management, and developing interconnected, resilient, and inclusive transport infrastructure. 

Measures include strengthening road, rail, and waterway systems to reduce travel time and logistics costs while enhancing safety and sustainability.

Key achievements were mentioned in the meeting, including updated infrastructure development of road connectivity, the Funan Techo Canal, deep-sea port projects, and tourism ports in Kampong Cham and Kampot provinces, railway upgrades, light rail feasibility studies, and wastewater infrastructure projects.

H.E. Peng Ponea stated that the Ministry’s efforts and achievements contributed directly to Cambodia Vision 2050 and the RGC’s goal of inclusive economic growth, underlining the public works and transport sector’s pivotal role in the nation’s development.
