Cambodia, Thailand Continue Border Talks Under ASEAN Observation
AKP Phnom Penh, February 04, 2026 --
The Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the Cham Yeam-Hat Lek International Point of Entry in Mondul Seima district, Koh Kong province, under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) from both countries.
The meeting, which began at 2:17 p.m., brought together representatives from Cambodia’s Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command. The Cambodian delegation was led by Major General Mom Samedy, Chief of the RBC Secretariat (Cambodia), while the Thai delegation was headed by Captain Kittiphon Kunsiripanyo, Chief of the RBC Secretariat (Thailand).
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the two sides have not yet reached a common understanding. Both parties therefore agreed to return to their respective headquarters to continue exchanging documents and negotiations until a consensus is achieved. A formal signing ceremony and a subsequent meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand RBC between the two regional commands will be held once agreement is reached.
The special RBC meeting was conducted in accordance with the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC), held on Dec. 27, 2025. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the outcomes of that meeting and to continuing efforts aimed at de-escalating border tensions.
The meeting underscored the shared determination of Cambodia and Thailand to pursue practical cooperation in support of regional peace, stability, and a swift return to normalcy along the border.
