Cambodia, and ROK Reaffirm Strategic Partnership During Ambassador’s Introductory Call
AKP Phnom Penh, February 03, 2026 -- Cambodia and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have reaffirmed their strong bilateral relations and commitment to further strengthening their Strategic Partnership during an introductory call by the newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Kim Changyong, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s press release.
During the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn warmly welcomed and congratulated H.E. Kim Changyong, Ambassador of ROK to Cambodia, on his appointment, expressing satisfaction with the long-standing friendly relations and steady progress in cooperation between the two countries across various sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Cambodia-ROK Strategic Partnership, which was elevated during the official visit of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, in May 2024.
H.E. Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to work closely with the Ambassador and the ROK Embassy in Phnom Penh to further enhance bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both peoples.
H.E. Prak Sokhonn also expressed deep appreciation for the ROK’s continued Official Development Assistance, noting its significant contribution to Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
For his part, H.E. Kim Changyong praised the Royal Government of Cambodia’s achievements in combating transnational crimes, including online scams. He affirmed his commitment to working closely with relevant Cambodian institutions to further deepen bilateral ties during his tenure.
Looking ahead, both sides welcomed the upcoming 30th Anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the ROK in 2027 and expressed their intention to organise various commemorative activities. They also agreed to work together to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
The Deputy Prime Minister further briefed the Ambassador on the current situation regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.
