The Board of Peace Officially Welcomes Cambodia as a Founding Member
AKP Phnom Penh, January 28, 2026 --
Cambodia has officially become a founding member of the U.S.-initiated Board of Peace, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to global peace and international cooperation.
“The Board of Peace welcomes Cambodia as a founding member of our growing international organisation,” the Board said in a post on X on Jan. 28.
Cambodia announced its participation in the initiative on Jan. 26 during a meeting between Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and visiting H.E. Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, ten days after receiving a formal invitation from U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
In a social media message posted yesterday, the Cambodian Premier explained that the decision reflects Cambodia’s strong commitment to supporting and contributing to the promotion of global peace.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that peace-loving values, goodwill, and active contributions to peacebuilding and peacekeeping have long been core principles of Cambodia’s foreign policy, particularly through the deployment of Cambodian peacekeeping forces under the United Nations to conflict-affected countries.
Addressing public concerns over potential financial obligations, the Prime Minister stressed that Cambodia’s status as a founding member for a three-year term involves no financial contribution.
He further clarified that the reported US$1 billion contribution applies only to countries seeking permanent or long-term membership in the Board of Peace, and not to founding members serving a fixed term.
