Cambodia-Vietnam Ties Remain Anchored in "Historic Solidarity," Says Analyst
AKP Phnom Penh, January 08, 2026 --
Historic solidarity remains the bedrock of Cambodia-Vietnam relations as both nations navigate a shifting global landscape, a senior Cambodian analyst said Thursday.
H.E. Dr. Kin Phea, Director-General of the International Relations Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, told a forum at the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh that bilateral ties are seeing "dynamic growth" across all sectors, underpinned by mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"Cambodia-Vietnam relations continue to diversify within both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, maintaining strength in areas of shared strategic interest," he said, adding that the two neighbours are increasingly aligning to address global challenges and deepen mutual understanding to achieve broader national and international goals.
The remarks were made during a session focused on the Communist Party of Vietnam’s (CPV) leadership and governance ahead of its 14th National Congress.
H.E. Dr. Kin Phea emphasised that the geographical and political realities of the two nations make their cooperation an "indispensable necessity."
He cited the long-standing bilateral motto – "good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability" – as the guiding principle for non-interference and peaceful resolution of disputes.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu welcomed the insights, noting that the discussions reflect the significant interest in Vietnam’s strategic policies as the CPV prepares for its upcoming congress to steer the country into a new era of development.
