Cambodia Welcomes Global Media Amid Border Conflict with Thailand
AKP Phnom Penh, January 07, 2026 --
Cambodia has maintained an open-door policy for international media during and after recent border hostilities with Thailand, Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra said on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, the minister emphasised that the Royal Government has facilitated access for a wide range of global news organisations to observe and report directly from the frontlines in provinces bordering Thailand.
"In addition to national media and international agencies permanently based in Cambodia—such as AP, AFP, Reuters, Kyodo, NHK, Xinhua, and EPA—we have welcomed numerous other foreign outlets," he said.
H.E. Minister noted that major broadcasters and publications, including the BBC, Al Jazeera (English and Arabic), Channel News Asia, CGTN, CCTV, Deutsche Welle (DW), The Times, and The Independent, have deployed teams to the border regions to provide firsthand accounts of the situation.
He highlighted that global coverage has been further amplified as news outlets worldwide pick up dispatches from major wire services, ensuring the international community remains informed about the impact of the conflict on Cambodia.
"The world is gaining a broader understanding of the challenges Cambodia is facing through this extensive reporting," he added.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra also expressed his gratitude to local authorities for ensuring the safety of both domestic and foreign journalists working in high-risk areas.
He commended the cooperation between the media and provincial officials, which has allowed for transparent reporting on the ground.
