Thai Renaissance Drones Reported Violating Cambodia’s Sovereignty

The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia has reported incursions by Thai reconnaissance drones into Cambodian sovereign territory on Jan. 5 and 6, 2026.
According to a report released today by the Ministry, on the night of Jan. 5 the Thai side deployed one reconnaissance drone over Pursat province and another over the area of the Cham Yeam International Border Gate in Koh Kong province, in violation of Cambodia’s territorial integrity.
Similarly, on the night of Jan. 6, 2026, the Thai side reportedly deployed one reconnaissance drone flying from the area of Gate 56, along with two additional reconnaissance drones that crossed over the area of O’Phluk Damrei in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
“Overall, as of this time, the Ministry of Interior of the Royal Government of Cambodia has been and continues to closely monitor developments along the frontline on an ongoing basis, in close coordination with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, to safeguard national sovereignty and lawful territorial integrity,” the report underlined.
At the same time, the Ministry emphasised that it is giving due attention to the management of displaced persons and has instructed relevant provincial administrations to continue collecting data, conducting inspections, and addressing impacts to the fullest extent possible.
Efforts are also underway to accelerate the resumption of public service delivery, while strengthening cooperation with frontline forces, enhancing security measures, and maintaining overall situational control in the border provinces.
The report further noted that as of 6:00 a.m. on Jan. 7, an additional 16,756 displaced persons had returned to their homes. Of the more than 640,000 people displaced, approximately 460,000 have now returned. As a result, 186,760 displaced persons – among them 98,027 women and 61,169 children – remain in displacement sites.
