Thai Forces Persist in Shelling Civilian Areas of Poipet
AKP Phnom Penh, December 23, 2025 --
The Ministry of National Defence reported that the Thai military continued to shell civilian areas in Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province, this morning.
Between 10:38 a.m. and 10:40 a.m., Thai forces fired three artillery shells into the Kon Damrei area, located in Sangkat Nimitt, Poipet city, said a Ministry’s news release.
“These brutal actions constitute indiscriminate attacks by the Thai military and represent a serious violation of international humanitarian law,” the Ministry underlined.
As Thai military aggression enters its 17th day, civilian areas remain under constant threat. H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, stated that Thai forces have deployed a wide array of heavy weaponry, including F-16 fighter jets, DTI-2 rocket launchers, cluster munitions, toxic gas, and advanced drones. She described these actions as a direct assault on both innocent civilians and World Cultural Heritage sites.
