Thai Military Fires M79 Grenades into Civilian Homes in Poipet City
AKP Phnom Penh, December 22, 2025 --
Tension has escalated at the border after Thai military forces fired three M79 grenades into a civilian area in Tuol Pongro, Sangkat O’Russey, Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province, at 11:32 a.m. today.
The attack was described as an indiscriminate and aggressive act targeting civilian areas, constituting a serious violation of international humanitarian law, the Ministry of National Defence said.
Cambodian forces remain on high alert and are closely monitoring developments along the border, said the Ministry, underlining that they continue to maintain a firm, disciplined, and resolute presence while carrying out their duties to defend Cambodia’s territorial integrity and national dignity.
This escalation of military aggression comes as ASEAN Foreign Ministers are gathering in a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today to discuss recent developments, foster mutual understanding and confidence, promote the de-escalation of tensions, and restore peace, stability, and good-neighbourly relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
