DPM Hun Many: National Solidarity Front Provided Essential Foundation for Cambodia’s Nation-Building
AKP Phnom Penh, December 02, 2025 --
Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many this morning highlighted the enduring historical significance of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM), formerly known as the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (KUFNS), asserting that it established the crucial foundation for the rebuilding of Cambodian society and the shaping of the nation's political leadership following decades of turmoil.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the Front's establishment, Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many characterised the organisation's formation as a pivotal turning point in Cambodian history. He emphasised that its founding was not only essential for national liberation and survival but also laid the robust groundwork for long-term social reconstruction and effective national governance.
The original movement was created through the collective solidarity of Cambodian patriots, both domestically and internationally, under the leadership of key national figures, including Samdech Heng Samrin, Samdech Chea Sim, and Samdech Hun Sen. This patriotic coalition was instrumental in mobilising resistance against the genocidal Pol Pot regime, a campaign that culminated in the regime's eventual overthrow on Jan. 7, 1979.
H.E. Hun Many, who also serves as Minister of Civil Service and Vice President of the SFDCM, presided over the event. He was attending as the high representative for Samdech Kittisangahapundit Men Sam An, President of the National Council. The ceremony took place at the Chaktomuk Conference Hall in Phnom Penh and saw the attendance of approximately 700 members and invited guests.
In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister declared that the Front’s establishment, together with its comprehensive political programme, constitutes a major historical milestone for Cambodia. He argued that beyond securing national liberation, the Front provided a clear strategic and political framework necessary for reconstructing the country after years of devastating, protracted conflict.
Following the Jan. 7 victory, he explained, the organisation worked in close coordination with the state to cement national unity, prevent any resurgence of genocidal forces, and restore the socio-economic fundamentals of the country. These early efforts were critically focused on rebuilding livelihoods and ensuring the survival of a population whose economic and social fabric had been virtually annihilated.
“Grounded in the strength of national unity, Cambodia successfully ensured the rebirth of the nation and guided society out of extreme hardship toward gradual and sustained development, leading to the progress we see today,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
Concluding his remarks, H.E. Hun Many urged all Front members at every level to steadfastly uphold unity and internal cohesion, remain dedicated to patriotism, strengthen their bonds with the populace, and devote their energy to national service. He specifically called on them to faithfully implement the resolutions passed at the Front’s Sixth National Congress and the policies of the Royal Government.
He underscored that these core principles represent the Front's enduring mission and unchanging ideal in advancing Cambodia’s ongoing national development
