NBC Governor Meets World Bank Managing Director in Phnom Penh

H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received Ms. Tania Meyer, Managing Director of the World Bank in Cambodia, and her delegation on Nov. 25 for a courtesy call and working discussion.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the strong cooperation between the NBC and the World Bank. The World Bank has provided key technical assistance to the central bank, including support for international reserve management, crisis management and prevention frameworks, deposit insurance systems, and technological development.
Ms. Tania Meyer praised the NBC’s achievements, including maintaining exchange rate and price stability, strengthening the banking sector, and advancing Cambodia’s digital payment systems. She encouraged the NBC to continue sharing its successful experiences in payment system development and other areas with international counterparts.
For her part, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey shared Cambodia’s progress in developing digital payments, managing international reserves, and supervising the banking system, noting that the NBC welcomes study visits from foreign central bank delegations seeking to learn from Cambodia’s experience.
She also highlighted the benefits and risks of rapid technological advancement, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybercrime, and online scams, emphasising the need for cooperation among all stakeholders to enhance financial literacy and maintain financial stability.
Both sides also exchanged views on Cambodia’s economic development and the challenges posed by external factors.
