Gunfire Heard from Thai Side Contradicts Thai Media Reports, Says Defence Spokesperson:
AKP Phnom Penh, September 25, 2025 --
H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, confirmed that additional gunfire was heard from the Thai side this afternoon, as reported by Cambodian forces stationed along the frontline.
According to her statement, the incidents occurred as follows:
- At 11:25 AM, the sound of one shot of gunfire was heard from the Thai side, roughly the area adjacent to the Chub Tapri area.
- At 4:48 PM, the sounds of three shots of gunfire were heard from the Thai side, roughly the area of An Ses.
- From 4:48 PM to 5:00 PM, the sounds of gunfire were heard from the Thai side, around twenty-five to thirty shots, roughly from the area of Prolean Thmar, Bos Sbov, and Choam Te.
Gunfire had also been reported earlier in the morning at 2:57, 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00. This contrasts with claims made on the official webpage of the Royal Thai Army and in some Thai media reports alleging that Cambodian forces had caused “disturbances throughout the night in Army Area 2,” including gunfire, explosions, approaching the barbed wire area, and firing to estimate distance.
“Cambodian forces did not initiate provocations or engage in any actions that violate the ceasefire agreement, as alleged by the Thai side,” H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata stressed.
She reiterated the Cambodian armed forces’ firm commitment to respecting and implementing the ceasefire agreement with Thailand, underscoring their strong determination to cooperate at all levels.
The spokeswoman further highlighted that Cambodia has consistently upheld constructive engagement, particularly through the Cambodia-Thailand frontline communication teams, which continue to exchange information and clarifications regularly to prevent misunderstandings and unnecessary tensions.
