Brazil is considering sending football and volleyball coaches to train Cambodian athletes, following a proposal by Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, according to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate.
The suggestion was made during a courtesy meeting here at the Senate Palace this morning, where Samdech Techo Hun Sen received credentials from H.E. Mrs. Vivian Loss Sanmartin, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Cambodia.
Citing Brazil’s strength in sports, Samdech Techo Hun Sen encouraged expanded cooperation in this sector, particularly through the dispatch of Brazilian coaches to support Cambodian football and volleyball development. He stressed that sports collaboration would not only strengthen bilateral friendship but also enhance people-to-people exchanges.
On behalf of His Majesty the King of Cambodia, Samdech Techo extended a warm welcome to the new ambassador, noting that Brazil’s decision to open an embassy in Phnom Penh for the first time marks an important step in advancing bilateral ties.
For her part, Ambassador Sanmartin pledged to promote Cambodia-Brazil relations to new heights, with a special focus on economic and trade cooperation. She also expressed support for stronger cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies.
Samdech Techo welcomed the ambassador’s initiative and proposed the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group between the National Assembly and the Senate of Cambodia and their Brazilian counterparts.
In addition, Samdech Techo briefed the Brazilian diplomat on the ongoing border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. Ambassador Sanmartin reaffirmed Brazil’s support for a peaceful settlement, urging both sides to respect the ceasefire and work toward restoring normalcy.
