AKP Phnom Penh, September 20, 2025 --

H.E. Suos Yara, Chairman of the Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Information of the National Assembly of Cambodia, on Friday morning led the Cambodian parliamentary delegation to the Committee on Political Matters of the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

A highlight of the meeting was the adoption of the draft resolution on Advancing the Peace Initiatives for People and the Planet, sponsored by Cambodia. This marks AIPA’s recognition of Cambodia’s efforts under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister, in seeking peace, safeguarding stability, and promoting the well-being of the people.

This achievement also builds on Cambodia’s leadership in initiating the Peace Charter for People and the Planet — a visionary proposal by Samdech Techo Hun Sen that was endorsed at the 11th Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), hosted by Cambodia in November last year.

The Committee on Political Matters discussed the following eight draft resolutions:

1. Adoption of the Report of the 14th ASEAN–AIPA Leaders’ Interface
2. Advancing the Peace Initiatives for People and the Planet – Sponsored by Cambodia
3. Strengthening the Role of Parliaments in Achieving the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 through Enhanced Parliamentary Diplomacy, Regional Multilateralism, and Inclusive Public Engagement
4. Strengthening Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation to Combat Transnational Cybercrime 
5. The Role of Parliaments in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights in ASEAN
6. Strengthening AIPA–AICHR Partnership in Advancing Inclusive Growth, Sustainable Development, and Regional Human Rights Cooperation 
7. Enhancing Parliamentary Oversight of Climate Security Architecture in ASEAN
8. Addressing the Humanitarian Situation in Myanmar

The Cambodian delegation’s contribution to advancing peace and human security was warmly welcomed by AIPA member parliaments, further strengthening Cambodia’s role in promoting regional dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation.

AKP-National Assembly
