The National Police of Cambodia and the Royal Thai Police have agreed to establish a joint working group to continue discussions on planning activities related to the prevention and suppression of cross-border crimes, including cybercrime and human trafficking.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between the National Police of Cambodia and the Royal Thai Police in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand, on Sept. 16. The Cambodian delegation was led by H.E. Lt. Gen. Seang Thearith, Deputy Commissioner-General of the National Police, while the Thai side was headed by Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, Senior Inspector-General of the Royal Thai Police.

Both sides expressed their readiness to implement this cooperation in a spirit of mutual respect, in line with their respective laws and sovereignty.

The meeting, which lasted from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., was held in accordance with the outcomes of the first Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting in Koh Kong province on Sept. 10, 2025. The GBC meeting encouraged closer cooperation between the relevant authorities of both countries to prevent and suppress cross-border crimes and determined that the Ministries of Interior and National Police of the two countries would meet within a week to establish a joint working group tasked with preparing action plans in this regard.

The Royal Government of Cambodia reaffirmed its strong commitment to combat all forms of cross-border crimes, particularly cybercrime, which has been on the rise in the region and worldwide. At the same time, Cambodia expressed hope that the Thai government will maintain the same commitment to ensuring the safety of both nations’ citizens.
