Cambodia Aims for Dragon Boat Success at World Games 2025 in China

Cambodia is positive that its national dragon boat team will reach the finals and bring home medals at the World Games 2025, set to take place in the People's Republic of China.
Mr. Kong Sopheap, Assistant Coach of the Cambodian National Dragon Boat Team, highlighted the optimism during a departure ceremony at Phnom Penh International Airport on Aug. 6.
He reaffirmed his confidence in the team’s readiness, citing their participation in major international competitions across Southeast Asia, Asia, and the world since 2023.
Mr. Kong Sopheap noted that Cambodia qualified for the World Games after a strong performance in the 2024 qualifying round held in the Philippines, where the team ranked 9th among 12 competing nations.
He emphasised the team’s potential and dedication, stating that the athletes have undergone intensive training and are determined to succeed for the dragon boat races to be held from Aug. 7 to 11, with 12 countries participating.
Cambodia’s delegation includes 15 members: Delegate Head Mr. Va Kry, two coaches, and 12 athletes, six of whom are female, and the team will compete in six events, including 200-metre, 500-metre, and 2,000-metre races, each featuring both standard and mixed-gender formats with either eight or twelve rowers.
The World Games 2025, hosted in Chengdu province from July 7 to 17, will showcase 42 disciplines and welcome athletes from 117 countries.
