Defence Spokesperson: Thai Forces Continue Violating Cambodian Territorial Integrity Despite Ceasefire
AKP Phnom Penh, August 05, 2025 -- Thai armed forces have intensified their activities in the Anseh area—part of Cambodia’s sovereign territory—despite the existing ceasefire agreement and objections from the Cambodian side.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, on Aug. 4 at 11:00 a.m., Thai forces entered the area with heavy machinery, including excavators, and laid barbed wire.
“Today, at 9:09 a.m., Thai machinery resumed digging. At 9:50 a.m., a Thai truck arrived carrying concrete materials, including tires and a prefabricated culvert, and by 9:53 a.m., Thai troops continued trench-digging operations,” she stated during a press briefing in Phnom Penh this afternoon.
Later, at 10:55 a.m., another Thai machine was deployed to clear land behind a police station—just 15 metres from the Cambodian army’s position—where Thai forces placed sewage pipes and tires into the trench, she added.
“This is a provocative action by Thailand that clearly violates both the ceasefire agreement and Cambodia’s territorial integrity,” she emphasised.
The spokesperson said Cambodian forces had contacted their Thai counterparts since the morning of Aug. 5 to demand the immediate removal of the barbed wire and withdrawal of machinery from Cambodian territory. However, as of the time of the press briefing, no dismantling had occurred, and discussions between the two sides were still ongoing.
