Foreign Diplomatic Corps Visit Cambodia-Thailand Border Clash Area
AKP Phnom Penh, August 01, 2025 --
A delegation comprising ambassadors and representatives from 22 countries and four international organisations conducted a field visit today to areas in Oddar Meanchey province affected by the recent armed clashes along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
The visit was led by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, according to H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry.
Among the diplomats was H.E. Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, who shared his impressions following the visit.
“I visited the areas affected by the military clashes between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as shelters for displaced civilians. Witnessing the extent of the damage caused by the military clashes and the plight of the displaced civilians, I felt a deep sense of sorrow,” he said.
The ambassador expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and offer his sympathy to those who have been affected. At the same time, he earnestly hoped that complete peace will be restored as soon as possible.
“The Japanese government and I myself will make every effort to achieve this,” he affirmed.
EU Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Igor Driesmans and Australian Ambassador H.E. Derek Yip, who also joined the field trip, reiterated their support to the ceasefire and urged both Cambodia and Thailand to honor it and work towards a lasting and peaceful resolution.
