Cambodia Continues to Gain Support from International Community
AKP Phnom Penh, July 27, 2025 -- Cambodia continues to receive growing support from the international community for its consistent call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the ongoing border clashes with Thailand, and for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
Speaking at a press briefing this morning, H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that the international community has increasingly expressed support for the Royal Government of Cambodia’s goodwill and principled position.
He added that prominent international leaders have acknowledged Cambodia’s commitment to peace, including U.S. President Honorable Donald Trump, Prime Minister of Malaysia and current ASEAN Chair H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, and United Nations Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres.
According to the spokesperson, numerous major international media outlets quoted the Malaysian Prime Minister’s statement highlighting three key points:
He would continue to advocate for a ceasefire proposal.
He recognised Cambodia’s support for the initiative and noted that Thailand had agreed to it in principle.
He instructed the Malaysian Foreign Minister to coordinate efforts with the Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers to facilitate a ceasefire—and if necessary, he would engage directly with both countries.
“If we look at the proposal of the Malaysian Prime Minister, Samdech Thipadei has already expressed agreement with it, and this commitment is also reflected in the report of the United Nations Security Council,” H.E. Chum Sounry underlined.
He further emphasised that Cambodia welcomes the United Nations Security Council’s call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and urged Thailand to return to diplomatic mechanisms and support a ceasefire and negotiated settlement.
