MAFF Seeks India’s Support for Agricultural Research and Development
AKP Phnom Penh, June 17, 2025 --
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) has requested support from the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to enhance research and development (R&D) and to collaborate on establishing a modern agricultural production system.
H.E. Prak David, Secretary of State at the ministry, made the request during a working meeting held on June 16 in Phnom Penh with an ICC delegation led by Director-General Mr. Rajeev Singh Tyagi.
According to H.E. Prak David, the proposed production system focuses on building modern agricultural communities, importing high-quality and reasonably priced fertilisers, improving dairy farming techniques, and developing freshwater aquaculture.
Mr. Rajeev Singh Tyagi expressed interest in exchanging expertise in agriculture, strengthening bilateral cooperation, and promoting agri-trade between India and Cambodia.
During the meeting, H.E. Prak David also highlighted Cambodia’s key agricultural products—such as rice, cashew nuts, cassava, pepper, and spices—as promising opportunities for Indian investors to engage in processing, packaging, and exporting to international markets.
He further briefed the delegation on Cambodia’s investment law, which offers numerous benefits to investors and provides a favourable legal framework for investment.
The ICC delegation has been on a visit to Cambodia to explore investment and trade opportunities in the agricultural sector and to deepen bilateral cooperation.
