Defence Ministry: Cambodia Adheres to Diplomatic and Peaceful Solutions
AKP Phnom Penh, May 28, 2025 --
The Ministry of National Defence has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes through diplomatic and peaceful means, while also emphasising the importance of maintaining peaceful, stable, and cooperative borders with its neighbouring countries.
The statement followed an armed clash between Cambodian and Thai forces early this morning, which resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier.
“Cambodia is committed to defending its territorial integrity at all costs,” the statement stressed.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of National Defence this afternoon, the incident occurred in Techo Morokot village, Morokot commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, when Thai troops allegedly opened fire on a long-established Cambodian military trench.
“This clash is not what Cambodia seeks. We will continue discussions with the Thai Ministry of Defence to find a common solution, restore normalcy quickly, and prevent such incidents from recurring,” the statement emphasised.
The ministry also urged the public not to spread or believe false information on social media that could destabilise the border situation or negatively affect bilateral military relations and the daily lives of citizens on both sides.
It further advised the public to rely solely on verified information from official sources, particularly press releases issued by the Ministry of National Defence.
