Senate President Urges Japanese Company to Invest in Cambodia’s Agro-Industry
AKP Phnom Penh, May 14, 2025 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received Mr. Akira Dodate, Chief Executive Officer of Nokyo Tourist Corporation, in a courtesy call this morning at the Senate Palace.
According to H.E. Chea Rithy, Spokesperson for the Senate, Mr. Akira Dodate expressed a strong interest in Cambodia’s agricultural sector. He highlighted opportunities for cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, noting that Japan has advanced experience in smart agriculture—technology-driven farming practices that could benefit Cambodia.
The CEO also expressed hope that his company could play a role in facilitating the training of Cambodian human resources in smart agriculture. He suggested that future visits to Japan by Cambodian delegations could further strengthen understanding and implementation of Japanese agricultural technologies in Cambodia.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Nokyo Tourist Corporation for its interest in investing in Cambodia’s agricultural sector. He provided an overview of the country’s agricultural development, emphasising that Cambodia has evolved from producing food solely for domestic consumption to generating a surplus for export.
However, the Senate President also acknowledged existing challenges—particularly in agricultural processing—that need further development.
He therefore encouraged the Japanese company to invest in Cambodia’s agro-industry, especially in processing raw agricultural materials for export to international markets. This, he said, would not only enhance Cambodia’s export capacity but also contribute significantly to national economic growth.
