Tatork O’ Kroch Eco-Tourism Site Emerges as New Natural Gem in Battambang
AKP Phnom Penh, May 07, 2025 --
A newly developed eco-tourism community nestled deep within the lush forests of Samlot district, Battambang province has been drawing praise and admiration from both local and international visitors for its untouched natural beauty and striking waterfalls.
The Tatork O’ Kroch Eco-Tourism Community, officially established in 2021, spans across the villages of Tatork and O’Kroch in Tatork commune, about 90 kilometres from Battambang provincial city. Initially designated as a forest protection area, the region has since evolved into an emerging adventure tourism hotspot due to its rich biodiversity, scenic mountain landscapes, streams, and waterfalls.
Adventurous travellers have been making their way to the site using traditional ox carts driven by local villagers—an activity that not only enhances the rural experience but also provides income for the local community. The area’s remote location, often shrouded in mist and cloud, offers visitors the surreal impression of being above the clouds, surrounded by dense mountain forests and cascading waters.
Local resident Chhorn Pin, who knows the area well from his foraging work, explained that visitors often leave their motorbikes at villagers’ homes and rent ox carts to transport their gear into the forest, where they set up tents and stay overnight. “We ensure their safety and they pay us a small fee—some more, some less,” he said.
Seap Phuon, another local, added that tourists often bring their own food but still contribute economically by buying chickens from villagers and paying to have them cooked or for rice prepared before they leave. “We earn a little money from helping them out,” she shared.
Some visitors noted the uniqueness of the area, with one tourist commenting, “While there are many waterfalls in Cambodia, the view here is special—the forest is blanketed in fog and mist, which makes the whole place feel otherworldly.”
Many have expressed hope that local authorities and relevant officials will improve the access roads to support growing tourist interest and enhance the overall visitor experience.
