H.E. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi, Member of the House of Representatives of Japan and former Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, has observed a growing interest among Japanese companies in exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia.

During a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon, H.E. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi noted the presence of major Japanese firms in Cambodia, including Toyota, AEON, and Minebea. He added that many more Japanese businesses are looking to invest in the country.

The Japanese lawmaker emphasised Cambodia’s strong potential, particularly in agricultural production and processing for export. He also praised the country’s hardworking and skilled labour force, which, he said, has the capacity to produce high-quality products and help transform Cambodia into a central hub within ASEAN.

H.E. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi expressed satisfaction with the vibrant Japan-Cambodia relationship and underscored the two nations’ cooperation in defence and security, including collaboration under the UN Peacekeeping Operations (PKO), demining efforts, and humanitarian mine clearance training.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet praised the close partnership between Cambodia and Japan, highlighting in particular Japan’s involvement in the development of the Sihanoukville Deep Sea Port.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their ongoing support in Cambodia’s peace-building process and development across various sectors.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei welcomed the establishment of strategic cooperation pillars between the two countries, stressing their role in deepening and broadening bilateral ties. 

He also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to encouraging and facilitating greater Japanese investment.
