Cambodia and Australia Strengthen Cooperation in Combating Regional Drug Trafficking
AKP Phnom Penh, March 08, 2025 -- Cambodia and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and intelligence sharing in the fight against drug trafficking in the region, according to H.E. General Meas Virith, Secretary-General of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD).
The pledge came following a high-level meeting between H.E. General Meas Virith and a delegation from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), led by Deputy Commissioner Ms. Lesa Gale, on Mar. 7.
During the discussions, H.E. General Meas Virith expressed his appreciation for the AFP’s continued support in Cambodia’s anti-drug efforts, including technical assistance, investigative training, and specialised courses on anti-money laundering for Cambodian law enforcement officers.
He emphasised that both Cambodia and the AFP remain committed to ongoing collaboration and intelligence sharing to counter drug trafficking within the region and prevent cross-border smuggling into Cambodia.
Additionally, the AFP will convey Cambodia’s requests to its leadership to further support the country’s anti-drug strategies and provide additional resources.
The NACD Secretary General also shared Cambodia’s successful experiences in dismantling major drug networks, highlighting key cases that have been effectively tackled by local law enforcement.
This strengthened partnership highlights both nations’ dedication to enhancing regional security and tackling the growing challenges posed by transnational drug crime.
