Thai PM Outlines Vision for Sustainable Growth at WEF Dialogue
AKP Phnom Penh, January 24, 2025 —
Thai Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra presented Thailand's strategic vision during the Country Strategy Dialogue (CSD) on Thailand at the 2025 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The premier emphasized the importance of global collaboration in an era driven by intelligence and innovation, calling for collective efforts to build a sustainable and inclusive future. The Prime Minister outlined three key strengths underpinning Thailand’s strategic goals.
First, agriculture and food production are undergoing significant transformation through advanced technologies, including AI, robotics, and precision farming. These innovations aim to enhance quality, reduce waste, and increase output, ensuring resilience and sustainability in Thailand’s agriculture sector. The government is also prioritizing food innovation to bolster global competitiveness.
Second, Thailand’s creative economy serves as a vital driver of economic and cultural vibrancy. Tourism, a major component of this sector, leverages the country’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Thailand is positioning itself as a leading “stress-relief destination,” inviting travelers to rejuvenate and create lasting memories.
Third, the focus on sustainable advanced industries aligns with global green agendas. Thailand is promoting bio-based industries and adopting the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model. Investments in green technology are prioritized, with a target of achieving 50% renewable energy in electricity production by 2040, focusing on solar, wind, and biomass energy.
To maximize these strengths, the Prime Minister identified three key drivers. First, the development of the digital economy through enhanced infrastructure and skilled human resources. Second, strengthening trade and international connectivity, meeting global standards while maintaining Thailand’s distinct “Siam diplomacy” to balance relationships with global powers.
In her closing remarks, the Prime Minister called for collective efforts to promote peace and shared prosperity. She reaffirmed Thailand's aspiration to grow alongside the global community through sustainability, innovation, and collaboration.
