Cambodia, Azerbaijan Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Relations and Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, May 11, 2026 —
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet on Monday received H.E. Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, at the Peace Palace to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, H.E. Elchin Amirbayov stated that Azerbaijan considers Cambodia an important partner in bilateral relations and highly valued the progress in cooperation between the two nations, particularly ties between their legislative and executive institutions.
He noted that Azerbaijan is seeking new opportunities to expand cooperation in a number of potential sectors, including stronger private-sector partnerships, as well as enhanced economic and trade cooperation.
The Azerbaijani representative also conveyed an invitation from the President of Azerbaijan to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to attend the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which will be hosted by Azerbaijan later this year.
In response, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed satisfaction with the growing bilateral relationship and highlighted that the strengthening friendship between Cambodia and Azerbaijan presents important opportunities to deepen cooperation further.
The Cambodian Premier noted that both countries still have broad potential to expand collaboration in various sectors for the mutual benefit of their peoples and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to diversifying international partnerships worldwide.
Both sides also discussed enhancing cooperation in key areas including politics, economy, trade, energy, tourism, culture, education, and agriculture.
In addition, they exchanged views on promoting closer private-sector engagement through business forums and business-to-business meetings aimed at exploring investment opportunities and increasing bilateral trade volume between the two countries.
