Fitness Centres and Sports Activities in Phnom Penh, Kandal, Preah Sihanouk and Other Concerned Provinces Suspended Temporarily

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has ordered temporary closure of fitness centres, sports activities and all kinds of exercise with large gathering in Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Kandal, Preah Sihanouk as well as other concerned provinces.
The directive was shared yesterday by the ministry in its announcement explaining that the move means to prevent large-scale community transmission of COVID-19.
The suspension exclude the sports competitions broadcasted on TV, it underlined, adding that the resumption of the fitness centres and sports activities will be subject to further notice by the ministry.
Threat of COVID-19 is recurring in Cambodia following the outbreak of community transmission so-called Feb. 20 Community Event, said the source.
Yesterday, Cambodia's tally of confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 1,000, with about half are linked to the Feb. 20 incident.
According to Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, 49 new infections have been recorded last night in Phnom Penh capital, and Preah Sihanouk, Prey Veng and Kandal provinces.
