PM: "Women and Development in the COVID-19 Context", the Meaningful Theme of the 110th International Women's Day
AKP Phnom Penh, March 08, 2021 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has spoken highly of this year's theme of the International Women's Day.
"Women and Development in the COVID-19 Context" is the meaningful theme of the 110th International Women's Day, Mar. 8, highlighting the important role of women in society, especially in the current fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which is an indisputable prerequisite for contributing to the promotion of women's rights and freedoms and for the greater value of women in society and on the international stage," wrote the Premier in a Facebook message this morning.
International Women's Day is celebrated around the world every year to commemorate the struggle and heroism of women in demanding their rights and freedom from oppression acts, he recalled.
The rights and freedoms of the Cambodian people, including women, were restored after the country's liberation on Jan. 7, 1979 from the brutal genocidal regime of Pol Pot, he added.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister emphasised that since the Jan. 7 liberation day, the Royal Government of Cambodia has always paid attention to the promotion of women's rights and roles as clearly shown in the slogan "Women are the backbone of the national economy."
