Cambodia To Hold Commune/Sangkat Council Election in Early June 2022

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has announced the specific date for the Commune/Sangkat Council Election of the 5th mandate.
According to the RGC’s resolution signed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on Mar. 1, but just released to the media this afternoon, the 5th Commune/Sangkat Council Election will take place on Sunday June 5, 2022.
The Office of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Ministry of Civil Service and other relevant ministries and institutions are ordered to carry out the resolution effectively.
The previous Commune/Sangkat Council Election was held on June 4, 2017 in 22,148 polling stations across the country with the participation of 12 political parties. Some 7.04 million or 89.52 percent of the total eligible voters of 7,865,033 turned out to the polls.
According to the result, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won a landslide victory by obtaining 1,156 communes/Sangkat, while the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) got 489 communes/Sangkat, and Khmer National United Party (KNUP), a commune.
