AKP Phnom Penh, May 22, 2026 -- Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has expressed appreciation and praised local authorities and the National Police for their strong efforts in cracking down on online scam networks.

At a plenary cabinet meeting here at the Peace Palace this morning, the Premier said their efforts have yielded significant results in a series of operations.

However, Samdech Thipadei stressed that some challenges still remain and that the crackdown must continue without relaxation.

The Prime Minister also delivered a clear and firm message to local authorities to completely eliminate online scams with the highest sense of responsibility, emphasising that the issue concerns the reputation and image of the nation.

Cambodia has been enforcing its new Law on Combating Technology-Enabled Scams, which took effect on April 7, 2026, after being signed by Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

The law comprises five chapters and 24 articles, establishing five new criminal offences: technology-based fraud; organising or leading an online scam centre; recruiting or training others to commit such fraud; maliciously collecting personal identification documents or information; and a specific form of money laundering.

Convictions carry penalties of up to life imprisonment, fines of up to 1 billion Riel (approximately US$250,000), and asset seizure.
