CPP Reaffirms Firm Stance on Cambodia-Thailand Border Issues
AKP Phnom Penh, June 28, 2026 --
The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has reaffirmed its firm commitment to defend Cambodia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests while advocating for the peaceful resolution of border disputes with Thailand in accordance with international laws and the existing legal procedures.
In a message to mark the Party’s 75th Founding Anniversary on June 28, CPP President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen mentioned that CPP fully supports the Royal Government's ongoing efforts to resolve both land and maritime border issues with Thailand through peaceful means and in line with international law, existing bilateral agreements, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).
The ruling party stressed that Cambodia does not recognise any border demarcation established through the use of force, occupation, or unilateral territorial claims. It also rejected any attempt to alter the status of Cambodian territory by creating a fait accompli on the ground.
The CPP called for the full implementation of the Joint Statement adopted during the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025, describing it as an important framework for advancing bilateral cooperation on border affairs.
On the maritime dispute, the party expressed support for the Royal Government's decision to utilise the compulsory conciliation mechanism under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to pursue a peaceful and lawful settlement of the Overlapping Claims Area (OCA) between Cambodia and Thailand.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also appealed to the Cambodian people to strengthen national independence, self-reliance, and self-sufficiency amid an increasingly complex regional and international environment. He called on citizens to unite behind the Royal Government and support the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in safeguarding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The CPP leader further encouraged greater domestic production and consumption of Cambodian-made products, while urging party members and officials at all levels to reinforce internal unity and continue serving the people in implementing the party's political platform.
