Orientation Workshop on “Multi Drug Resistant TB Management in Cambodia”

Phnom Penh, March 31, 2011 AKP —

The Orientation Workshop on “Multi Drug Resistant TB Management in Cambodia” was held here yesterday under the presidency of Mr. Dr. Mao Tan Eang, Director of National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control.

On the occasion, Dr. Mao Tan Eang said the workshop is to kick off the implementation of the multi drug resistant TB program 2011, as well as to disseminate national guidelines in combating multi drug resistant TB including diagnosis, treatment and infection prevention.

The multi drug resistant TB program 2011 is expected to cost between US$1 million to US$2 million, he said.

Cambodia has a low rate of 1.4 percent of multi drug resistant TB, said Dr. Mao Tan Eang, indicating that there were only 10 cases of multi drug resistant TB patients during the first three months of 2011. –AKP
