AKP Phnom Penh, August 27, 2026 -- The United Kingdom will continue supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development, as well as its efforts to clear landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO), said Baroness Winterton, UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, during a meeting with Prime Minister Samdech Maha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Aug. 27.

During the meeting, Baroness Winterton spoke highly of the longstanding and traditional diplomatic relations and strong cooperation between the UK and Cambodia.

She noted that Cambodia was the first country she visited in her capacity as Minister for the Indo-Pacific, and expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s openness and strong commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to the discussion, the two countries still have considerable potential for cooperation in various areas, which could help deepen their partnership, create new opportunities, and bring mutual benefits to both countries and peoples.

Baroness Winterton reaffirmed that the UK would continue supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development and mine and UXO clearance activities.

She also praised the Royal Government of Cambodia for its continued assistance and support to Cambodian people displaced by the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, particularly its efforts to ensure that children continue receiving education while displaced by the conflict.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed satisfaction with the progress of relations and cooperation between Cambodia and the UK across various sectors. He thanked the UK Government for providing scholarships for Cambodian students to pursue their studies in the UK.

The Prime Minister described Baroness Winterton’s working visit to Cambodia as contributing to further strengthening bilateral ties. He highlighted the wide range of cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to expanding collaboration in areas with further potential.

Samdech Thipadei also expressed his appreciation to Baroness Winterton for visiting communities housing Cambodian people displaced by the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.

The two sides continued discussions and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in a number of areas, including education, tourism, security and defence, mine and UXO clearance, people-to-people exchanges, and private-sector-to-private-sector connectivity.

Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei briefed the UK minister on the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the border issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between the two countries.
